Columbia’s Peyton Gilbert Has His Sights on MLB

Peyton Gilbert says his life goal is to “pitch in the MLB!” Yes, that is … in Major League Baseball!

Accomplishing Peyton’s goal may be a short time in the future, however right now he says his teammate at Columbia, Cameron McClair, and he are the hardest throwing pair of pitchers in Section 4, if not the entire L-L League.

Peyton’s fastball was clocked at 91 mph last year and he has worked on his strength over the winter to increase his pitch speed to the mid 90s.

Overall, Columbia has a young team this year … though they can go a long way behind their pitching staff.

Peyton is “all baseball” — no other sports — though other Columbia coaches would love to have him. He is a four-year starting pitcher and plays a utility infield and outfield when not pitching.

In the off-season, Peyton competes on Complete Game Academy, a travel baseball team sponsored by Spooky Nook. Also on this travel team are many other L-L League baseball players, who have become on- and off-the-field friends.

Peyton emphasizes how much he appreciates the support he receives from friends and family, particularly from his father.

As for now, his favorite MLB team is the Los Angeles Dodgers and particularly his favorite player, Shohei Ohtoni. That favorite team may soon change if Peyton reaches his life goal.

Next fall, Peyton will be going to West Chester University to study business and play baseball.
