McCaskey's Anthony Patterson is setting his sights on the school record in the discus this spring.
"I want to break the record of 174 feet in the discus," he told the Lancaster Sports Hall of Fame at LNP | LancasterOnline's Spring Media Day at Penn Medicine Park.
Patterson also throws shot and is going to try javelin as well this season. "I've been throwing since eighth grade at Reynolds. I want to improve my technique," he said.
One of his coaches, Tyler Real, says of Patterson, "He's a natural leader. Seeing him interact with the rest of the guys, he takes charge. He'll get the guys together."
Patterson is looking at possibly attending West Chester University. He likes to study finance, math and algebra and wants to major in business. But first he wants to help McCaskey take care of business on the track. He helped the Red Tornado win a share of the Section 1 Championship last year. He hopes the team will bring home a league crown this season and advance to Districts and States and win some more hardware.
When he's not practicing throwing, Patterson enjoys hiking, backpacking and rock climbing.
