Columbia High School senior Chase Marley returns in the backfield on offense and at linebacker on defense for the Crimson Tide football team in 2026. Here’s a Q&A conducted with Marley during the L-L League Football Media Day on Aug. 7.
Q: What’s something you’ve worked on improving during the offseason?
“I’ve been in the weight room getting stronger. That was a weakness of mine last season. So I’ve been putting in the work in the weight room in order to be better on the field. Lifting weights constantly.”
Q: For the returning nucleus of this team, what’s something you learned from last year that will aid this season?
“Definitely more of our team producing. Last year we went about the season figuring out what we could do. Now I feel like it should unfold right away.”
Q: What’s your football journey individually?
“I started in first or second grade in youth football, playing down at Glatfelter’s Field. I’ve been playing ever since. I was always running back.”
Q: What does your passion for football look like beyond the field?
“I watch a lot of college football. And I play fantasy football, so I’m watching pro football, too.”
Q: Who’s your favorite football player?
“Saquon Barkley.”
Q: Do you play any other sports? If so, how do those sports translate to football?
“I play baseball and I wrestle. Baseball works on my position and timing. Wrestling helps me with strength and form for tackling.”
Q: What are the strengths of this year’s Columbia football team?
“Our chemistry. How we trust each other. Everyone knows we have each other’s back when we’re down.”
Q: Time for some fun questions: any family trips over the summer?
“Me and my family went down to Outer Banks in North Carolina.”
Q: You’re good at football, wrestling and baseball. What sport are you the worst at?
“Basketball.”
Q: Let’s say you find a lamp, a genie pops out and give you three wishes. What are they?
“Win a state championship. Have a million dollars. And new golf gear.”
Q: If you could go back in time what advice would you give to yourself as a freshman?
"To lift weights, focus, know what you’re doing, and don’t be lazy.”
Q: What’s your favorite quote or motto?
“The biggest waste in life is wasted talent, and the choices that you make determine your life. I’m big on that. The amount of talent I have I don’t want to waste it. I’m heavy on that.”
