Conestoga Valley volleyball player Ashton Judy (center) thinks there’s something missing at his high school, and he wants to help bring it there this spring.
“I’d like to bring a (championship) banner to CV. Our last banner was in the 1900s, and that’s way too far away,” the senior says.
The Buckskins finished 9-7 last year, and Coach Hunter Davis and his players feel that even more success is possible this year, “as long as we believe,” Davis says.
“We believe we can beat any team in the state on any given day, but we can also lose to any team, so we have to be prepared every single day,” he says.
State champion Manheim Central and highly regarded Cocalico are the main targets in 2026 for players like Judy, Andy Bonhomme (left) and Colson Erb.
Says Erb, “I believe we have the talent to get us there, and the work ethic.”
Despite last year’s success, Davis recalls a few lapses -- one game they lost to Northern Lebanon he really remembers – that ended up costing them a spot in the playoffs.
“So we still have that kind of bitter taste in our mouths, and we kind of want to go out and prove ourselves. Volleyball’s a tough sport, momentum can swing a lot of different ways at any point in the season. Somebody can get hurt, there are a lot of different factors, but we’re going to take it day by day, game by game, and see what happens.”
Having a deep bench also helps, the coach adds, “and we have that this year, so we can move people around, put different people in, so that’s really valuable to us.”
