Manheim Township senor Isaac Churchville is a team guy. Someone that can be counted on when a teammate may need a pick me up. Or someone who can bring out the best in another.

Churchville is a thrower for the Blue Streaks. He has thrown the discus in past seasons but has added the shot put this season. Last year he finished 13th in the discus at the Lancaster-Lebanon League Meet with a throw of 128’3”.

This season he has picked up right where he left off. In the Streaks league-opening meet this spring, a 84-66 win over Penn Manor on March 23, Churchville surpassed that distance with a winning throw of 128’10”.

And while he wants to continue to get better, he admits another motivating factor for his participation in track and field.

“I like pushing people to get better,” said Churchville.

He specifically noted that he is picking up the shot put this year with the intent to push teammate and fellow senior Jake Ruch. Ruch is one of the top returning boys' shot-putters in the L-L League. He took second at the L-L Meet last year with a put of 54’5.25”. Then he followed that up with a bronze at the district meet at 53’9.5” before finishing 12th at States at 52’7.5”.

This year, Churchville wants Ruch to do even better. He also feels the Blue Streaks can contend in the Section 1 team race.

“We can definitely by in the mix,” he adds, citing McCaskey as the team he thinks is the one to beat.

In his spare time, Churchville competes for the Elizabethtown U18 Rugby team in order to keep fit.
