Experience is often the best teacher.
After a year of gaining that experience with a young boys volleyball team in 2025, McCaskey is ready to take a big step forward in 2026, Coach Nate Lyons (right) says.
“We were pretty young last year. We were running with predominantly sophomores, and while a lot of the games were pretty close, they still ended up in the loss column,” Lyons recalls.
“But we’re definitely improving. A lot of these guys from last year now have varsity experience, so that should help a lot, plus give us a leg up for this season.”
The Tornado finished last year 3-11 last year. Now, Lyons is counting on senior Yariel Rodriguez, juniors Kyle Brown and Josiah Hernandez (left in photo) and others who gained experience a season ago.
“We’re hoping that some of those close ones (that were defeats) will be victories in 2026,” Lyons says.
Rodriguez hopes so, too.
“Our goal as a team is to do better this year … and I definitely believe our team can do better this year,” he says.
Lyons and his players spoke about their hopes for the 2026 season at the Lancaster-Lebanon League Spring Sports Media Day, hosted by LNP | Lancaster Online at Penn Medicine Park.
